Migration Strategy
RWA advised Royal Bank of Canada on their migration strategy for their CBEMIS (Corporate Banking Europe, Management Information System) database. The system took feeds from centres in Europe and Canada to produce monthly positions by client, industry sector etc. It formed the basis for their crucial Return on Risk adjusted Capital (RORAC) reports. The existing system was running on an IBM MVS system.
In conjunction with CirCa Business Systems Ltd, RWA helped analyse the existing data feeds and produce a new data model. RWA was responsible for designing a new implementation architecture based around NT Servers running MS-SQLServer. Data import and reporting was carried out using the Focus for Windows product as the core RBC staff were familiar with this.
One of the main technical issues that RWA successfully overcame was the adoption of new technology whilst maintaining backwards compatibility with existing corporate infrastructure, which was based on a mixture of mainframe and minicomputer applications servers, Novell LAN servers, token ring and SNA networking, and 16 bit Windows clients.
